Dowling, Seamus

August 28, 2013
The death of Seamus Dowling after a long illness bravely borne, saddened his neighbours and friends in the town of Dunlavin and the wider west Wicklow/Kildare area.
Seamus' involvement in football goes back a long way, and even though it was brief enough it is worth recalling. Back in 1950 he was the captain of the Dunlavin U16 football team that played in the first ever Dublin/Wicklow Mens Cup, reaching the final where they were pipped by Newtown, that's a long time ago but it was an event that Seamus liked recalling.
In his later life he was better known as a musician of some quality, he played the piano accordion and at one time had his own band. He was a member of the Donard branch of Comhaltas Ceoltori Eireann for a number of years. Seamus was a mechanic by trade and a good one at that and liked nothing better than restoring old machinery. His remains were removed from Baltinglass Hospital to St Nicholas Myra Church Dunlavin on Wednesday and burial took place in Dunlavin cemetery on Thursday.
