Wicklow Under 14 Camogie Leinster Blitz

May 20, 2013

The Wicklow Under 14 camogie squad
Playing in Divison 3 Wicklow opened with a great battle v Kildare 2 coming away with a win. Next match was v Louth where the Wicklow girls cntinued their good form and chalked up another victory. Dublin came next and this proved to be an amazing game.

The Wicklow girls gave as good as they got and with solid skillful players all over the field the play went from end to end and the match remained scoreless at half time. As WW took the field for the second half an unexpected interruption came along! The match was held up as we awaited the playing of the National Anthem.

The break was longer than expected however and as the match resumed and a player was lost to injury Dublin snatched the initiative which in spite of a late Wicklow score saw them over the line. As a result of the WW wins in the first 2 games they qualified for the Shield Final v Carlow. This game was difficult as the legs were heavy and heat by now was relentless with the sun beating down.

Nevertheless the Wicklow girls battled on - including the injured player who returned from hospital with stitches and went straight back back into the fray! Their reward came in the second half as their determination and never say die attitude bore fruit....they got their second wind and produced some magic camogie resulting in 3 brilliant goals! Carlow had enough to take the Shield and Congratulations to them but the WW supporters present had lots to cheer about.

A great day organised by Leinster Camogie and Wicklow was delighted to be part of it. Training continues for this group in the coming weeks and Clubs are encouraged to send more of their girls to join in.
