Norton, Betty

The Late Betty Norton

The Norton family and a good part of the GAA fraternity in Baltinglass suffered a sad bereavement on Sunday when the of the Nortons, Betty passed to her eternal reward. She was in her 98th year and enjoyed good health up to a very short time ago.

Football, or the GAA in some shape or form, was never far from the top of the agenda in the Norton household. If Betty wasn't washing socks and togs, she was nursing cuts and bruises on some member of her extended family.

Her three sons, Tony, Lar and Billy all played football at several levels while daughter, Josie was in the at the birth of a camogie revival in the town and won schools championships and under-16 junior and senior with Kiltegan.

Betty's three daughters extended the GAA involvement. Renee married Billy Wall, Pat married Martin Coleman and Josie married John Dooley.

It would be no exaggeration to say that the greater part of the GAA community in the Slaneyside town were in mourning this week.

Our sympathy to her extended family. May she rest in peace.
