Fogarty, Seamus

August 06, 2008
The news of the untimely death of Seamus Fogarty was received with great shock and sadness in the community. In his early 50's Seamus was most pleasant, courteous and obliging and was highly respected which was reflected in the huge attendance his funeral. He was employed by Coillte for 27 years and in recent times was a member of the Maintenance Staff at Avondale Forest Park. He had great difficulty coming to terms with the sudden death of his son Shane, four years ago. Seamus was a very talented footballer in both soccer and gaelic and was also an accomplished Badminton player in his youth. He had just moved into his new house in The Brewery and was very happy in his new home. Seamus was also a member of Rathdrum Fire Brigade for a number of years. Fr Oliver Crotty who celebrated Funeral Mass in the Parish Church said in the course of his homily that the large congregation present was a great source of consolation for Seamuss family and friends and he prayed that he was now united with his son Shane in Gods Kingdom. Members of Avondale GAA, Avondale Soccer club and the local Fire Brigade formed a Guard of Honour and his school pal and life long friend Liam Kinsella enhanced the Funeral Mass with his magnificent singing. Sympathy is extended to his wife Essie, daughter Nicola, son Eamonn, brothers, sisters, large extended family and friends. May he rest in peace. Wicklow People, 6th August 2008
