Burke, Patsy

July 02, 2008
The death at the weekend of Patsy Burke of Baltinglass and formerly Tuckmill saddened West Wicklow and adjoining counties. Patsy was a life-long supporter and activist in the GAA, and was the last surviving member of the team that won a JFC in 1943. He was a chairman of the Baltinglass club, a committee member for many years and Vice President right to the end. His son Peter was one of Wicklow's greatest midfielders, for club and county while grandson Peadar is carrying on the tradition with the present Baltinglass team which won tha Allen Cup and had twin sons Tom and Pat playing on that team. He is also the chairman of the Baltinglass Juvenile Club. Patsy was even better known as an expert sheep breeder and was famous at shows all over Leinster, either as an exhibitor or judge. As a mark of respect, all G.A.A. activities in Baltinglass were cancelled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday while a minute's silence was observed at all other matches and flags at St Joseph's park were flown at half mast. To his sons, daughter and extended family we extend our sympathy. Wicklow People 02/07/08
