Over 6,000 people turned out for last night's eight annual hurling for Cancer Research match.
The charity event has raised a massive €830,000 for the Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Research programme since 2012 and organisers are hoping to break the million barrier with this year's running.
Davy Russell’s Best were once again pitted against Jim Bolger's Stars and it was the latter who came out on top by two points, 3-17 to 4-12, in front of a record attendance at St Conleth’s Park in Newbridge.
Russell's side held a 3-11 to 0-10 advantage at the break but under the guidance of Wexford's 1996 All-Ireland winning boss Liam Griffin, Bolger's charges came roaring back in the second half to regain the title.
Man-of-the-match Brendan Cummins pulled off a string of spectacular saves while former Wexford goalkeeper Damien Fitzhenry impressed at the other end.
Other stars to line-out on the night included multiple champion jockey Ruby Walsh, former Republic of Ireland Internationals Niall Quinn and Stephen Hunt, Kilkenny All-Ireland winners JJ Delaney, Aidan Fogarty and Tommy Walsh, Wexford's Lee Chin and Conor McDonald and Dublin's Chris Crummey and Cian Boland.
