Kelly, Watt

April 02, 2008
The Late Watt Kelly Watt Kelly who died last week, was a stalwart of St. Fintan's GAA Club, serving as President up to the time of his death. Aged 78, Watt lived all his life in the family home at Sanctuary, Killinick. He died at Waterford Regional Hospital last Thursday following a brief illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris (nee O' Dowd) whom he married on January 19, 1966 and by their five children, Ber, Richard, John, Walter and William. Watt also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and sadly, he will not be around to see two other grandchildren who are due to be born this summer. Having worked as a farmer in the early part of his life, Watt spent the remainder of his working life in the haulage business. But outside of work, he found time for his passionate interest in i gaelic games and St. Fintan's GAA Club and was also dedicated to the advancement of his local local community. He was President of St. Fintan's Club and chairman of the Development Committee at the time of his death. For many years, he was a selector at Bord na nOg and underage level. The club made it to seven county finals in hurling and football, winning three county titles. He was a selector for the Wexford District team in 1977 and 1978 and the Fintan's team that won the county senior football championship in 1980. He was also a selector with Seamus Keevans and Andy Doyle for the Wexford senior football team. And he was President of Wexford District GAA up to the time of his passing. Apart from the GAA, he was involved in the Ballymore/Mayglass Parish Council and the Killinick Development Fund. He was also voluntary caretaker of Killinick Hall. An outgoing, sociable man, Watt also liked time to reflect and enjoyed his quiet visits to Our Lady's Island. Every day since he retired, including Christmas day, he went to the island. He always said it kept him alive. His well-attended requiem Mass took place in Ballymore Church. St. Fintan's PRO, Paddy Maguire paid a tribute to him during the funeral service while the former Wexford County Board chairman, Jim Berry gave an oration at the graveside.
