The Late Jim Dillon The Passing of the highly respected and Newbawn man, Jim Dillon, was met with great sadness in the local area and beyond. Jim passed away last Friday, January 4, at Wexford General Hospital surrounded by his loving family, at 85 years old. The former proprietor of Dillon's Shop in Newbawn, Jim was a very popular man with true community spirit and held in very high esteem by all who knew him. Born to parents Michael and Anne Dillon, Jim was one of five children, with brothers Myles, Michael, Patrick and sisters May and Winnie. He met his loving wife Bridie Byrne from Rathimney, Gusserane, at a GAA convention in New Ross and the couple married in 1959. One of Jim's greatest passion's in life was GAA and he first got involved in GAA as a player in the late 1940's. He later acted as a selector with numerous teams, which represented the Adamstown Club at all levels and was also a Wexford county selector both at under-21 and senior hurling for a number of years. Jim was a committee member of the Adamstown Club for a period spanning 56 years from January 20, 1952 until the time of his death, when he was the club representative on the New Ross district committee. His funeral mass took place in the Sacred Heart Church in Newbawn on Sunday, followed by his burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. His funeral mass was celebrated by Parish Priest, Fr. Tom McGrath and concelebrated by Fr. Joe McGrath, Fr. James Murphy, Fr. Martin Doyle, Fr. Jackie Power O.S.A., Fr. Michael Colender O.S.A., Fr. Denis Nulty, Fr. Fintan Morris and Fr. Liam Lawton. JIm is survived by his loving wife Bridie, his children Anne, Eileen, Mary, Michael and Eddie, his ten grandchildren, his sister Winnie, brother Patrick, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many, many friends.
