Colfer, Paddy

The late Paddy Colfer Long-time Bannow resident Patrick (Paddy) Colfer died at the age of 92. Paddy was born in Vernegly and lived and worked in Bannow as a young man. He greatly enjoyed playing Gaelic sport and was an accomplished footballer and hurler. He moved to England in the 1950s, where he married Margaret in 1952. The couple lived in Pimlico and Westminister in central London. Where Paddy often said his next door neighbour was the Queen. He worked on the buildings and later with Barkers of Kensington Department Store and Jackson of Picadilly, the company famous for Earl Grey tea. Paddy and Maggie returned to Bannow in 1983 and had many happy years back home among their friends. His funeral took place at Carrig and he was interred at Bannow cemetery. He is sadly missed by his loving wife and son, Michael, daughter-in-law Lorraine, and their four grandchildren, Matt, Ellie, Gus and Eddie, his brothers Mick and Peter, and their families and friends.
