The Late Martin Beale There were many tributes this week to the late Martin Beale of Courtown Road, Gorey, and formerly of Wexford town, who died suddenly at Wexford General Hospital . A loving family man, he was widely known and respected in Gorey, Wexford and further afield. He was also well known for his love of sport and the GAA in particular. Martin Beale grew up in Wexford town, and served his time in Pierce's Foundry in Wexford before going to GL Murphy's Engineering, Gorey. He later worked in the Unidar Foundry, Dublin and also LMH in Arklow. He was known for his talent in track and field and Gaelic football. He won a Junior championship title with Sarsfield in 1943 and then went on to play Senior inter-county football for Wexford. He was a member of the great team of the late forties and early fifties which also included his brother, the late Sean Beale. Martin later played for Gorey Blues and became a selector for Naomh Éanna, Gorey. While sport was his main love in life, he also was a member of Gorey Operatic Society for many years and was involved in a number of shows in the '50s and '60s. He loved music and had a fine tenor voice. Martin also had a great love of travelling. His most memorable trip was to Italia '90 where he went to all the Irish matches. Most of all, he was a home-loving man home and family meant more to him than anything else. He is survived by his loving wife Kitsy, children Brendan,Miriam, Eithne and Eimer, and sisters Jo Roice, Wexford, and Breda Kearns, England. Martin Beale was laid to rest in Gorey graveyard, and funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of the Wexford People September 21st 2003
