The Late Very Rev. Canon Sean Kitt The death occurred peacefully of the Very Rev. Canon Sean Kitt at St. Vincent's Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin, after a long illness. Canon Kitt (82) was ordained for the priesthood on the 29th May, 1949 for the Dublin Diocese where he served as Chaplain to the S.T. John of God Brothers, Stillorgan and the Dominican Convent (1949 - 1950) and assistant priest in Dolphin's Barn (1950-1953). He then went on loan to the Wexford Diocese where he worked in the parish of Castletown, before returning to Dublin and serving as curate in Rathmines (1958 - 1972), and Administrator in Kilmore West ( 1972 - 1974). He was appointed parish priest Kilmore West in 1974 and served there until 1979 when he was appointed parish priest of Crumlin and served there for 20 years until his retirement in 1999. He had been appointed Canon in 1997 and on his retirement he became Paster Emerities of Crumlin. Throughout his life he was a G.A.A. enthuasist and in his earlier years of his priesthood was responsible for establishing a number of new Gaelic Football Clubs in Co. Wexford. When he returned to the Dublin Diocese he remained active in the GAA and was a life long friend of the late Sean O Siochain who was general secretary of Cumann Luath Chleas Gaeil. Galway teams over the years on their trips to Dublin for All-Ireland finals always had Fr. Sean for their Sunday morning Mass. His remains were removed from the residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Dundrum to the Church of St Agnes, Crumlin where they were received by the Archbishop of Dublin, Most Rev Dr. Diarmuid Martin, and the retired Cardinal Desmond Connell, and a large number of clergy. Bishop Martin spoke of his dedicated life as a priest and of his interest in the GAA and politics. The burial took place on the church grounds after Concelebrated Mass. The Chief Celebrant was his brother Very Rev. Canon Liam Kitt, who led a large number of Concelebrants and, as was the case at the Removal, there was a very large attendance, many of whom had travelled from his native area of Castleblakeney. Canon Sean had won a County Junior Football medal with Castleblakeney in 1943 and later played with Caltra. He was pre-deceased by the late Michael (T.D.), Tom, Maura, Evelyn and Patsy and is survived by his brother, Canon Liam Kitt (Mountbellew), sister-in-law Bridie (Lehenagh, Castleblakeney), brothers-in-law John Kinsella (Gorey, Co. Wexford), Dr. Tony Read (Canada), nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, devoted housekeeper Josie McKeown, the Archbishop, Cardinal, Classmates and priests of the Diocese of Dublin.
