Conran is new Wexford hurling manager
November 05, 2002
John Conran
As expected, John Conran was appointed as the new manager of the Wexford senior hurlers at a county board on Monday night (4th November).
The Rathnure clubman, who takes over from Tony Dempsey, was in charge of the Wexford under 21 sides which captured provincial titles in 1996 and '97. Martin Quigley and Dickie Murphy - whose future as an inter-county referee may now be in doubt - will form his backroom team.
An All-Star recipient in 1987, Conran won two Leinster senior hurling medals as a substitute in 1976 and '77. His last appearance in a Rathnure jersey was in 1999 when the Wexford outfit lost to St. Joseph's, Doora-Barefield in the All-Ireland club final at Croke Park.
