Carr happy to get through

Former Westmeath minor football manager Tommy Carr.
Westmeath minor football manager Tom Carr admits that he was relieved to see his side over the line against Wexford.

The Lake County had to come from behind to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat as Wexford pushed them all the way.

The former Dublin manager stressed to the Westmeath Examiner that his charges didn't play to their full potential.

"I am relieved to be quite honest, more than anything," said Carr. "We were behind for 50 minutes or thereabouts and we just couldn't get a grip on the game and get a fluency in our play. I think we showed snatches of it in the first half.

"But we asked of one thing and that was that they would stick to their task until the very end, and that if it came down to work rate that we would have the greater work rate. And I suppose ultimately that is what happened."
