Many people in Blackwater and the surrounding areas were saddened by the recent death of Mary Kate O'Brien.

Mary Kate, wife of the late Dinny O'Brien, of Ballinellard Blackwater, died on February 7 in Wexford General Hospital.
She is survived by her six children - Tom, Marian, Aidan, Sean, Cathy and Peter- her sisters Julia and Eileen, her brothers Paddy and Jack, her son and daughters-in-law, her 12 grandchildren and one great granddaugther.
Mary Kate was a hard working, loyal and independent woman.

She was a keen follower of the GAA, especially at underage level, and when she wasn't on the road with a car full of young lads she was at home washing jerseys.
In her younger days she was an active member of the ICA, where she made life-long friends and in latter years she enjoyed time spent with her friends at the 99 club.

Mark Kate loved the land. Over the years she ran a small farm and was never happier than when she was working outside.
In her early 40s she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She suffered great pain and hardship, but through sheer grit and determination she kept going and refused to allow it to put her down.
Mary Kate loved her family and her family adored her. When they congregated together, as they often did, the craic was mighty.

On February 10, Mark Kate was laid to rest in St Brigid's Cemetery, Blackwater, following her Requiem Mass, which was celebrated by her close friend Fr Denis Doyle and Fr Hugh O'Byrne, parish priest.
A large group of family and friends attended the funeral Mass to pay their last respects to a woman who was well known and much respected. May she rest in peace.
