Sad passing of Breda

There was widespread shock and sadness following the unexpected death of Mrs. Breda Sinnott (née Buckley) of Woodgraigue, Duncormick.

Breda, a native of Scoby, Enniscorthy, died suddenly at home on June 8 after suffering a heart attack. She was 63 years old.

Born in 1945, she was educated in the Presentation Convent, Enniscorthy, and after leaving school, she went to work with her aunt at her B&B in Greystones, county Wicklow.

She also worked at Woodbrook Golf Club and spent over 10 years in that part of the country.

After returning to Enniscorthy, she worked in Burke's Jewellers.

Breda loved music and often attended dances in Enniscorthy and Adamstown. It was during one of these social events that she met her husband, Seán Sinnott from Woodgraigue.

They got married in 1977, on Breda's birthday. The ceremony took place in Davidstown church. Afterwards, the couple settled into married life in Woodgraigue.

Breda was a keen sports enthusiast in her youth, winning a county camogie medal in the early 1970s with Davidstown/ Courtnacuddy.

Her fondness for sport remained with her all her life and she always kept an eye on how Wexford were doing.

One of her passions in life was gardening, an interest in which she displayed green-fingered talent. Her beautiful garden was a living testament to her ability.

She grew flowers for the patrons in Ballymitty and Caim cemeteries.

A hospitable and house-proud woman, she had a warm welcome for all visitors to her home, whether expected or unexpected. Within minutes, the kettle was switched on and food was on the table.

If she knew you were coming, a tasty dinner would be ready and awaiting your arrival.

Breda's amiable and friendly nature endeared her to everyone she came into contact with. She had a natural ability to listen and give advice. She always made people feel at ease in her company.

When talking on the phone, Breda, a lover of nature, loved to gaze out over the back garden and if she saw a pheasant or a rabbit, she would relay the image to her listener on the other end of the line.

She enjoyed reading and had a particular fondness for novels. She would swap books with friends and neighbours who shared her interest.

She loved listening to music and rated the High Kings among her favourite artists.

Breda was devoted to her family and was the proudest mother in the world when her two sons, Derek and Brian, graduated with degrees from college and went on to get good jobs.

The large attendance at her funeral Mass in Ballymitty Church was a testament to the regard in which she was held. Mourners travelled from all over County Wexford and from Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Cork, Limerick, Wicklow, Dublin and Galway.

Breda is survived by her husband Seán; sons Derek and Brian; daughter-in-law Serena; Brian's partner Siobhán; her brothers Liam, Eamonn and Frank; her sisters Gertie, Betty and Dolie; other relatives, and a wide circle of friends.
