The Late Brendan Cullimore

There was genuine sadness throughout Wexford town following the death of Brendan Cullimore from Talbot Street.
Brendan, who had courageously battled illness for the past four years, sadly died at home on Monday, December 28. He was 72 years of age.
An electrical contractor all his life, Brendan was known all over County Wexford through his business connections.
He started out his working life with Eddie Slevin, but set up business on his own 30 years ago when Eddie retired.
Married to Frances (nee Frayne) for the last 49 years, the couple raised a family of five children, namely Billy, Marianne, Terry, Karen and Brendan jnr.
An avid sportman throughout his life, Brendan was affiliated to both the Sarsfield and the Harriers Clubs.
Brendan played at corner-back on the first ever juvenile county championship-winning team with the Sarsfields in 1953 and added a Minor medal in the same position two years later, also representing Wexford at that level in 1955.
After playing in the Senior championship of 1956 and '57, he spent five years with Faythe Harriers, winning a Senior football championship title in '59, a Senior football and hurling double in '60, and another Senior hurling medal in 1962.
In 1963, Brendan returned to Sarsfields and was one of six clubmen to represent the club in that year's Leinster Senior football championship against Meath in Croke Park, along with Jas Kirwan, the late Jimmy Roche, the late Pete Crowley, Jim Crowley and Rory Kelly.
Brendan won Cherry Shield and Kennedy Cup medals in 1963 and went on to play in the Senior championships of '64 and '65, operating mainly at corner-back but at full-forward in the latter stages of his career.
Another of Brendan's great passions was greyhound racing and he kept dogs right up to the time of his death. He raced them mainly in Enniscorthy and Waterford dog tracks.
He had three great friend Bobby O'Leary, Seamus Walsh and Timmy Scallan and the four of them travelled together to every match in Croke Park or Wexford Park. They'd then enjoy a few beverages and some craic after every game.
An honest down the earth individual Brendan treated everyone the same. What you saw was what you got with Brendan Cullimore, who was a very well liked, no nonsense, ordinary Wexford man who was dedicated to his family.
He was devoted to his wife and children, and doted on his six grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Frances, sons, Billy and Brendan; daughters Marianne, Terry and Karen; grandchildren, Eoin, William, Jack, Sarah, Leanne and Hannah; sisters Kathleen, Betty and Vera; relatives and many friends.
His remains was interred in St. Ibar's Cemetery Crosstown on December 30 following 11am Requiem Mass at the church of the Assumption, Bride Street Fr Murtie Byrne and Fr. Jim Fegan officiated at the funeral Mass.
