Brendan was a tireless worker for beloved GAA

The death of Brendan Browne of Belvedere Grove came suddenly on June 8th, following a short illness. Brendan's love of hurling prevailed throughout his life and friends in the GAA say he was highly respected for his helpful and kind manner by all who came in contact with him.
Born in Ballyboy, the Ballagh, Brendan had a lifelong love of hurling which began when he played Rackard League hurling with his school and then underage hurling with Oulart/The Ballagh.
Brendan later moved to Wexford where he played with the Faythe Harriers gaining a reputation as a tight-marking cornerback, winning Under 16, Minor and Under 21 County titles and in 1981 he was sub-goalkeeper on the Harriers team that won the County Wexford Senior Hurling Championship. In 2006, Wexford County Board honoured the talented Faythe Harriers team on the silver jubilee of winning the title with a presentation in Wexford Park. Brendan was very proud to accept this award along with his former team players.
When Brendan finished playing, he become involved with the Clonard GAA Club and was a selector for the club's Under 14 hurling team that won the National Feile Division 4 title in 1984. Brendan was also a selector with the club's adult and under age hurling and football teams. He was a tireless worker for the club as well as working at Smyths over the years as a panel beater.
In 2006, Brendan's hard work was acknowledged by the club when he was nominated to receive the Wexford District Award for Clonard GAA Club Person of the Year.
Over the past six years, Brendan was on staff of Wexford Park
-firstly in his role as a GAA coach, visiting schools and training children in the skills of hurling - and following that he spent four years as caretaker/groundsman in Wexford Park where he was highly respected for his helpful and kind manner by all who came in contact with him.
Brendan's first love was his wife Catherine, who he was married to for 38 years. Brendan is sadly missed by wife Catherine, daughter Nancy, son-in-law Paul, Sister Eileen, Brother Frank, nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws and grandchildren Katie, Anthony, Jack and Sean. May he rest in peace.
