There is widespread sadness following the death of popular Taghmon man., Mike Ryan who passed away at his home in New Town, Taghmon last week. Mike grew up at Coolteen, Barntown and moved to Tomcoole when he took over his Grandfather's farm in Tomcoole. A son of te late Michael and Mary Ryan, he was born into a family with strong political connections. His uncle, the late Dr. Jim Ryan was a former minister for finance and minister for agriculture in Eamonn DeValera's government. He later bought the Fountain Bar in Taghmon which he ran for many years. He became extremely well-known through the business. He is survived by his only son Aindreas who was serious;y injured five years ago in an assault outside the pub which left him incapacitated. Following the incident, Mike leased the pub and moved to a new home in Newtown, Taghmon with his only son. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty, Evelyn, Kate and Anne and by his brothers, Pierce, Martin, John and oliver: his sisters in-law; brother-in-law; nephews, nieces, relatives, Joan and all his carers. He was predeceased by his wife, Dympna and his brothers, Fr. Jim and Stan and by his sister, Alice. Mike had been in failing health for some time. A talented footballer with his younger days, he played with Taghmon/ Camross Gaa Club and his brother, John, was also a member of the County Wexford football team, playing in Croke park on a number of occasions. Burial took place in St. Fintan's cemetery last Friday following funeral mass in St Fintan's church. May he rest in peace. Wexford People 05/11/08
