Bonnar lauds undecided Fitzhenry

November 19, 2008
New Wexford hurling boss Colm Bonnar has described Damien Fitzhenry as "one of the best goalkeepers in the game" as the long-serving Duffry Rovers clubman mulls over his inter-county future. The only remaining link with the Model County's 1996 All-Ireland winning side, Fitzhenry publicity hit out at the treatment of former manager John Meyler, who was controversially sacked last month, and it remains unclear if he will return to the county set-up in 2009. Former Tipp star Bonnar is currently putting together his backroom team and once that is finalised, one of his first objectives will be to persuade Fitzhenry to commit himself for another year. "Damien Fitzhenry is one of the best goalkeepers in the game but I can't comment on the situation of any player and I wouldn't until I have a backroom team," he said. "Nothing is in place yet and I have been working with the county board in terms of getting a final list of possible names. Then we will sit down to draw up a panel of players."
