Former Ireland rugby star Shane Byrne is part of the Castletown management team that defeated St Anne's in the opening round of the Wexford SFC.

Byrne would be better known with an oval ball, but he is part of the Castletown management team for the 2018 campaign.

The Wicklow native lined out for Ireland on 41 occasions between 2001 and 2005, while he represented the British & Irish Lions on the 2005 tour.

Upon his retirement from rugby, Byrne returned to his GAA roots and lined out for his native club Aughrim in 2008.

Now, he is part of the Castletown backroom team who oversaw a 2-11 to 0-15 win over St Anne's last weekend.

The team is managed by former Dublin footballer Paul Bealin, while Jack Kavanagh and Joe O'Sullivan are the other selectors.
