Gaels Club review

May 28, 2004
Hot on the heels of the first ever championship success of our U12 team last year, our junior team created history when they captured their first county championship title at adult level in 2003. Nine years ago saw the commencement of ladies football in the Strete/Multyfarnham and Bunbrosna areas. These clubs amalgamated in 2001 under the banner of Clann Gaels. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength, entering teams at all grades. U12 - Having had a very successful year were defeated by the narrowest of margins in the championship semi-final. U14 - Had a successful year which culminated in the winning of the B Championship. U16 - Our U16 team had mixed fortunes early on in the season. They rectified this trend however and were considered most unlucky not to have earned a semi-final appearance. Junior - Having been unsuccessful in the Junior finals of 2000 and 2002, our junior team made a firm commitment that 2003 was going to be their year. We met The Downs in the semi-final and were lucky to come away with a draw. The replay however, proved to be a much different game and we ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 3-9 to 0-2. We travelled to Pairc Ciarán in Athlone to contest the final against Ballycomoyle/St Pauls. The opposition proved to be very strong and determined and after a keenly fought contest we were worthy but delighted victors on a scoreline of 3-12 to 4-2. Minor - Had a good year and were unlucky to be defeated in the B semi-final.
