St Lomans Mullingar Gaa Notes

May 21, 2013
U16 League
St Lomans hosted The Downs in the League on Monday evening last in Lakepoint Park. This was very much a game of two halves with a keenly contested first half but a very one sided second half.
The Downs mad a bright start and had registered two points in the opening two minutes but it was St Lomans who were to have the better of the opening exchanges. Points from Ronan O Toole (2) and Brian Dale gave the home side a slender lead. Mikey Scally rattled the Downs net on the seventeen minute mark after a fine move started by James Cox was followed by Johnny Donnelly giving the killer pass to Scally. A second goal quickly followed with Ronan O Toole neatly tucking to the net after a wonderful solo effort. The away side finished the half in clinical style and a goal and four points ensured the sides were level at half time.
The first half battle set up what seemed was going to be a tight game but the complete opposite was to be the case. Two goals in the opening three minutes set The Downs up for a one sided second half. Ronan O Toole and Johnny Donnelly kicked two fine points in what were to be St Lomans only scores of the half. The superior physical strength and determination of the away side proved to be too much for St Lomans. The Downs to their credit were a very clinical side and notched up numerous scores to win by a wide margin.
