Kilbeggan/St. Josephs v Tyrrellspass

Last Thursday 10th May saw the Kilbeggan/St. Joseph's Und 14 team take on Tyrellspass in Streamstown, in what was practically the deciding encounter in Division 3B. The visitors came into the the game on the back of a convincing win over the hosts in a recent challenge game. The game proved to be an absorbing contest and a great advertisement for football at this age group. The first half was a fiercely competitive battle with both sides trading points to go in at half time on an equal footing of 0-3 points each. The second half saw the home side gain the upper hand with an early blitz of scores including a superbly taken goal from Sean Pettit.

This pressure resulted in the home side opening up a six point advantage at on stage. However, Tyrellspass fought back bravely and when the final whistle blew honours were even on a scoreline of Kilbeggan/St. Joseph's 1-9 Tyrellspass 2-6. All players on the night can be very satisfied with their performances.

The goalkeeper Thomas Finnegan, and full back line of Diarmuid Egan, Keith Corcoran and Ryan Coughlan were alert and comitted throughout - particularly Under 12 corner back Diarmuid Egan who stepped up to the age level bravely. The half back line of Michael Pettit - who had his game of the season thus far, Colm Heffernan and Rory O'Neill were outstanding throughout. At midfield, the new pairing of Gearoid Farrell and Aaron McNamee both had outstanding games.

The half forward line of Eoin Kelly,Jamie Stone and Aaron McDonnell fought like tigers for the full sixty minutes, and were invaluable to the success of the team. The full forward line of Michael Carton, Ethan Nicolau and when introduced, Dylan Lowry competed well, but it was corner forward Sean Pettit who stole the show with a personal tally of 1-4. Overall the result was very satisfying for an ever improving home side that may yet have the opportunity to meet Tyrellspass again in the very near future.

Team: Thomas Finnegan, Ryan Coughlan, Keith Corcoran, Diarmuid Egan, Michael Pettit, Colm Heffernan, Rory O'Neill, Aaron McNamee, Gearoid Farrell, Aaron McDonnell, Eoin Kelly, Jamie Stone, Michael Carton (Dylan Lowry), Ethan Nicolau & Sean Pettit. Subs : Dylan Hawe, Dylan Maloney, Kian Cooper & Stephen Daly.
