Former Galway hurling star and St. Brigid's boss Anthony Cunningham has been appointed manager of Garrycastle. Cunningham, who led St. Brigid's to three Roscommon SFC titles as well as to a Connacht club title win in 2006, takes over from Martin McCabe, who stepped down after Garrycastle's county final defeat to Castledaly last October. A star of Galway hurling in the 1980s, Cunningham was a candidate for the Galway hurling manager's position which was recently filled by John McIntyre. Former senior kingpins Tyrrellspass have appointed St. Brigid's, Croghan clubman and ex-Offaly goalkeeper and selector Laz Molloy as their new supremo in succession to Pat Flanagan, who has joined the Westmeath senior management set-up. As revealed on this site last November, former Meath manager Colm Coyle will guide Coralstown/Kinnegad's fortunes, while Ray Smyth has left The Downs to take charge of both the Killucan footballers and Raharney hurlers - a role previously filled by new Westmeath hurling boss Eamonn Gallagher. The Casletown-Geoghegan hurlers have turned to former Laois hurling manager and Tullamore man Damien Fox in their request to win back the senior hurling crown. In the intermediate football championship, Ballymore, Ballinagore and Tubberclair have appointed new managers in Brian McCabe, Matt Geraghty and Tom Lennon respectively. Meanwhile, former county midfielder John Brennan has been finally given permission by Kilbeggan Shamrocks to join neighbours Tyrrellspass, with his transfer expected to be approved in the coming weeks. It is another blow to Kilbeggan, who are in the process of appointing a new manager, after their other marquee name, PJ Ward, transferred to Offaly side Shamrocks two years ago.
