Mullingar Shamrocks, represented by our Healthy Club Officer Joan Ormsby and Debbie Newman, were officially inaugurated into the GAA's Healthy Club family at a function in Croke Park on Saturday. 

Under-10 Blitz in St Loman's ...

Shamrocks’ under 10s had their penultimate outing of the year on Friday when they made the short journey to St Loman's to take on the hosts in a series of 9 a side matches. There was extra excitement for the players as these games were played under the excellent floodlights in St Loman's and it’s fair to say that the Shamrocks boys raised their game accordingly. Conditions were perfect for football and seventy local boys showcased their skills and every match was evenly contested as classmates, friends, cousins and neighbours battled each other fiercely but sportingly to give their respective colours the advantage.

The game of Gaelic football is certainly in rude health judging by the skills on display. Afterwards all the players were treated to well earned treats and everyone left happy after a great evening’s entertainment. Our thanks to St Loman's for inviting our lads and to the young referees Tadgh Kenny, Jack Geoghegan, Killian Plunkett, Thomas Meehan, Ciaran Smyth and Eoghan Kenny who controlled the games fairly and sensibly. Na SeamrÓigi ...

On Saturday morning in Springfield, the SeamrÓigi had their final session of fun and games for the year. And what a year it was for the Under-6s on the Astroturf with some football, lots of healthy exercise, fun and games and new friends made. No doubt about it ... Na SeamrÓigi was one of the year's HIGHLIGHTS Thanks to all for a truly superbly run nursery coaching season. Saturday morning’s activities spoke volumes for the level of attention and fun given to the children. 

The children were engaged, happy, competitive and received praise and recognition for all their efforts. The parents were extremely appreciative of the work involved. Well done to every coach who gave their time on Saturdays since last February. We never had fewer than 7-8 coaches on any morning and often there were 11-12 coaches in attendance. Thanks and enjoy the free Saturday mornings for the next few months.

Under-9 Go-Games Shamrocks v Shamrocks 

Mullingar Shamrocks under- 9 squad, with a little bit of help from a few under-10s, completed a hectic weekend of action on Sunday morning last when they faced Shamrocks from Offaly in a series of Go Games. The link with our namesakes from Offaly includes Shamrocks underage players turned provincial rugby stars, Conor and Sean O’ Brien, whose dad Garrett played with his native Shamrocks for many years. Each Shamrocks’ side had 28 players togged out and a closely contested series of games were played in difficult underfoot conditions. The dual players on both sides also played a hurling match afterwards so there were many exhausted but happy young boys by Sunday lunchtime. Well done to every player who represented Shamrocks on the day!! Our thanks to the visitors for travelling over and to St Oliver Plunkett's for the use of their facilities.

Under-14 Football Championship: St. Loman’s 4-9 Mullingar Shamrocks 0-14

Mullingar Shamrocks exited the u14 Championship, following a seven-point defeat against St. Loman’s, in Springfield on Sunday morning.

Shamrocks claimed a heavy victory when the teams met in the group stages, though this was a completely different ball game. St Loman's learned from the defeat, arrived in Springfield with a game plan and were comfortable winners in the game that mattered.

Shamrocks opened the scoring courtesy of a point from Conor Heffernan, though two goals in quick succession from Harry Mannering gave St. Loman’s a five-point lead.

Shamrocks went on to score the next five points in a row courtesy of Ryan Kelly (2), Heffernan, Shane Ormsby and Alex Sheerin to level the game, with 20 minutes played. Loman’s added the next two points to take the lead, though Shane Ormsby responded with a free for Shamrocks to reduce the deficit to one.

Loman’s replied with a score of their own, but a free from Ormsby turned out to be the final score of the half, as the visitors held a 2-3 to 0-8 lead at half time.

Loman’s scored the first two points of the second half, before Mannering completed his hat-trick after a well taken goal in the 36th minute and a further score left seven between the teams.

William O’Reilly’s score was quickly cancelled out with a score from Loman’s, though two Ryan Kelly points reduced the deficit to five.

Loman’s replied with two points of their own, though John Ryan’s score left six between the teams.

The victors found the net in the 57th minute to give themselves a nine point lead and essentially kill off Shamrocks, as two late points from Kelly (free) and Gavin Pierce were no more than consolation, with Loman’s holding out for a seven point win.
