Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

Centenary celebration

GAA president John Horan will be attending a celebration to mark the centenary of our first senior football championship success in 1919 this Friday, September 27.

The Uachtarán will also perform the official opening of our all-weather facility, which has been in use for a number of years now, and is expected to pay a visit to Scoil an Chlochair. A time for the cutting of the ribbon at the Astroturf pitch has yet to be finalised, while there is also the possibility of an underage blitz being held to mark the occasion.

Kilbeggan beat Kinnegad by 1-7 to 1-1 before a crowd of 3,000 in Rochfortbridge to win the first of their seven senior football titles exactly 100 years ago, and family members of the 17 players who were involved will receive special presentations at the celebration in the Parish Centre at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

The GAA president will also make presentations on behalf of the club to our All-Ireland intermediate camogie winners Mairead and Joanne McCormack on the night.

The winning panel was: Jack Guilfoyle, Frank McGuinness, Michael Lynagh, Matt Delahunty, Ned Langan, Joe Guilfoyle, Albert Ryan, Tom Bohan, John Coghlan, Bernard O’Neill, Jack Langan, Joe Dwyer, John McGuinness, Joseph Rourke, James McGuinness, Fr Pat Joe Ryan and Barney Finn.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Martin Maher on managing Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall to the Westmeath JFC final against Ballynacargy. The final will be played on October 6.

We also extend our congratulations to Sean and Mary Daly – two of our biggest supporters – on celebrating 55 years of marriage with family and friends in New Forest Golf Club last Sunday.
