Crookedwood club notes

January 21, 2019

A.G.M.

Our AGM was held on the 11th January in the clubhouse and was well attended. Chairman Gerry Butler welcomed all and thanked them for attending. Enda Murray read the secretary’s report and gave a detailed account of the previous year’s matters. Kieran McKenna presented a detailed Finance Report which generated little or no debate. In his Chairman’s address, Gerry thanked all for their hard work during the year and looked forward to a positive 2019. However, Gerry expressed his desire to step down as chairman and Feichin Brennan was elected as his replacement. We would like to thank Gerry for all his hard work over the last few years and wish Feichin the best of luck for the year. A full list of the 2019 officers will soon be available on the website and will be published in the notes. Votes of sympathy were expressed to all who suffered bereavements during the year.

Operation Transformation and the GAA

Ireland Lights Up with the GAA is a national initiative to improve the health of the country through GAA clubs and communities across Ireland. GAA clubs across Ireland will be coming on board with RTÉ's Operation Transformation and turning on their floodlights/lighting systems from 7pm to 9pm each Thursday for a six-week period (17th January – 21st February 2019) as Operation Transformation returns to our screens for 2019

Westmeath GAA

The Westmeath hurlers capped a brilliant weekend for Westmeath GAA with a penalty shootout victory over Antrim in the Kehoe cup final. Trailing by four points with time up, a goal from Allan Devine and a long-range effort from Killian Doyle sent the game to a novel conclusion. Antrim put two penalties over the bar and Paddy Carroll saved the third as Niall Mitchell, Allan Devine and Killian Doyle all found the net to give Westmeath our first Kehoe Cup since 2010. Shane McGovern was introduced at half-time and chipped in with a fine point from play. Well done to all players, management and the backroom team.

Well done also to the footballers who started the weekend in the best possible way by winning the O’Byrne cup for the first time since 1998 after a fine performance against Dublin on Friday night. Crookedwood hurler Ronan Wallace had a fine game and we congratulate him and fellow Multy men, Anthony McGivney and Ciaran Madden, and all involved in this great win.
