Body Balanced Players

Mona O’Donoghue led many of our Under-Age Players through a Body Balance Session in Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí last Sunday evening, as they worked to improve their Balance and Flexibility,

Body Balance is a yoga-based class that teaches participants to bend and stretch through a series of yoga moves while embracing elements of Tai Chi and Pilates to promote controlled breathing.

It was the first experience of this for all the players and it really opened their eyes to some fabulous stretches, moves and complex poses, such as the Bird Pose, which is one they will all aspire to achieve for longer than a few seconds. Mona led a fantastic session and all the players thoroughly it, so many thanks to Mona for inspiring this next generation. There’s one last fitness session for these group of players before Christmas: a Power & Resistance Session next Sunday at 5pm in the Gaelscoil.

New Management Opportunities

Southern Gaels senior hurlers have a vacancy for a new hurling manager and selectors, as John Benton has finished his two-year stint at the helm with an impressive win over Turin. If you are interested in furthering your coaching experience and taking up this opportunity, please contact the club via Facebook or by ringing Club Chairman Martin Geary at 087 2253350.

Christmas Catch Challenge

The Christmas Catch Challenge is up and running with a number of contenders already surfacing at each age level. The challenge is to record the maximum number of catches and strikes that can be made in one minute with the hurler standing at least 2 metres from the striking surface. Each age level is invited to send their videos to their lead mentors asap with some nice prizes up for grabs just in time for Christmas. Check out the Facebook page for details.

Happy Hurling Christmas

Southern Gaels would like to wish all its members, mentors, parents and friends a Happy Hurling Christmas. It has been a memorable year for the club which would not have been possible without the dedication of the aforementioned. Southern Gaels is on the cusp of a great few years and with your continued support the club will rise up from this end of the county to take its rightful place among the great clubs of Westmeath. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. Nollaig Faoi Shéan is Faoi Mhaise Daoibh Uile - Gaels Abú!
