Division 3 v The Downs

We are still awaiting our first win in Division 3 of the All-County Football League after The Downs recorded a double-scores victory, 2-16 to 1-8, over us in The Downs last Thursday evening.

The hosts led by just three points, 0-7 to 0-4, at half-time, but took over after the restart to run out comfortable winners. A Jamie Stone goal was the highlight of an otherwise disappointing second half performance from us.

Team: Thomas Barrett; Darragh Coffey, Alan Fennell, James Fox; Brendan McMahon, Shaun Pidgeon, Colin Draper; Dean Fitzgerald, Mel Kiernan; Kevin Smith, Jamie Stone, Niall Carey; James Finnegan, Brendan Nannery, Nigel Scally. Subs used: Keith Corcoran, David Fennell, Ryan Coughlan, Dylan Maloney and Finbarr Coffey.

U8 blitz

Well done to the boys and girls who took part in their first U8 blitz in sunny Athlone last Saturday morning. They played games against Athlone, Mullingar Shamrocks and Lilliput Gaels and gave a great account of themselves. Training for U6s, U8s and U10s continues every Thursday at 6pm.

North Leinster champions

Congratulations to Mercy Secondary School on their 1-15 to 3-2 North Leinster junior football 'C' final victory over Bush Post Primary School, Co. Louth in Dunganny, Co. Meath last Friday, and best of luck in the Leinster final.

Paddy Dunican

Congratulations to Kilbeggan Racecourse Manager Paddy Dunican on winning the Athlone Chamber Business Person of the Year award last Saturday night.
