St Joseph's Ladies V Moate

Friday last 13th April, St Joseph's Ladies played Moate in Hogan Park, Moate in a tightly contested Division 3 league match.  The weather was kind for once this year and the light held for this first evening match of the season. The game was a battle from the start and the lead was swapped many times throughout the contest. Without exception all our players gave every ounce and the game was a thoroughly entertaining contest from start to finish. St Joseph's Ladies opened the scoring with a well taken point from Sinead Robbins and this was cancelled out by Moate after some near misses. St Joseph's Ladies and Moate traded points again this time a point from Karen Keegan. We went ahead 4 points to 2 with points from Sinead Robbins and Ellie Conway but again Moate pulled it back to 4 a piece. The final score of the first half came from full forward Ashling McCormack to leave us leading the contest 5 points to 4 at half time. As expected Moate came at us with everything in the second half and quickly levelled the match. Sinead Robbins who was deadly in the full forward line throughout popped a point as did midfield dynamo Ellie Conway putting us back in front but then Moate hit a purple patch to score 3 goals and a point in a 10-minute period. In fairness our girls did not lay down and fought to the end with the last 3 scores of the game coming from Sinead Robbins, a goal and 2 points. Her last score of the game was the last kick of the game, a point that could have been a goal if a few inches lower but it was not to be and the game finished in Moates favour on a score line of St Joseph's Ladies 01-10 to Moate 03-06. A big positive for the night was that we had 3 new players on show who are new this season to our expanding club, Amy Maxwell, Sandra Nester and Therese O'Reilly, all three ladies had outstanding games and the future looks bright. Team management and indeed all supporters present were so very proud of all the team who gave everything throughout. Scorers, Sinead Robbins 1-06 (1f), Ellie Conway 0-02, Karen Keegan 0-01, Ashling McCormack 0-01. Team - Deirdre Ann Nally, Amy Maxwell, Clodagh McCormack (C), Sandra Nestor, Therese O'Reilly, Orla Robbins, Edwina Scally, Roisin Kealy, Ellie Conway, Roisin Killian, Karen Keegan, Claire Conlon, Erin Pettit, Ashling McCormack, Sinead Robbins.  Subs, Lauren McDonnell, Carmel Carroll, Ciara Maxwell, Katie Reid, Joyce Conway.
