There was unbelievable drama in the last round of Division Three games as Fermanagh secured promotion.

The Ernemen faced Longford in a straight promotion shootout at Pearse Park and Seamus Quigley sent over the winner from a highly-contentious injury-time free: 1-10 to 1-9.

The midlanders led by seven points to six at the break but Quigley converted a penalty at the start of the second half. Robbie Smyth restored Longford's advantage with a 43rd-minute major. They still led by two with five minutes left but three late Quigley frees earned the Ernemen promotion and a Division Three league final date with Armagh in Croke Park on Saturday evening.

At the other end of the table, Offaly preserved their third-tier status when defeating neighbours Westmeath by 1-20 to 1-14 in Mullingar, Peter Cunningham netting their goal in the first half while Luke Loughlin replied - 1-8 to 1-6 at the interval.

Westmeath finished with twelve men as Killian Daly, Boidu Sayeh and John Connellan were all dismissed in the second half.

That result meant the losers of Sligo and Derry's meeting in Markievicz Park would make the drop to the basement division and it was the Yeats County who prevailed in a thriller, 3-11 to 2-12, with Liam Gaughan, Kevin McDonnell and Patrick O'Connor bagging their goals.

Conor McAtamney and Shane McGuigan hit the majors for the Oak Leaf County, who will be devastated to have been sent down to Division Four just four years after facing Dublin in the Division One final.

Bottom beat top in the section's dead-rubber contest as relegated Wexford signed off with a 0-12 to 1-8 home victory over promoted Armagh.
