The Late Richard Skehan It is with feelings of profound regret we record the death of Richard (Richie) Skehan, Cahernaleague, Ballinamult, which sad event took place recently following a short duration of illness. Richie was born on the 12th July 1924, in Stradbally. One of a family of four, he received his early education in Stradbally. A keen follower of the GAA, he played football for his native parish and was a founder member of the Stradbally hurling club. He continues to be a great follower of the red and white all of his life. In 1957 Richie married Mary Mullaney and came to live in Ballinamult where he devoted his life to farming and to rearing their family of Seamie, Lois and John. He was a great judge of horseflesh and bred a number of champions in his time. He continues his love of GAA with his adopted club of Sliabh gCun/ St. Mary's where he was a selector during the club's golden era 1978-1983 when the club won four county finals. Richie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was affectionately known to his nearest and dearest as 'The Boss'. His passing is much regretted and leaves a void that will not be easily filled. He will be greatly missed and mourned by his sorrowing wife Mary; sons Seamie and John; daughter, Lois; sister, Eily Kirwan; daughters-in-law, Breda and Linda, son-in-law James; grandchildren Tara, Julie, Eithne, Jack, Karen, Brian, Conor and Dearbhaile as well as nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
