Moore, Pat

August 30, 2007
It is with a heavy heart we write on the passing of twenty-three your old Pat Moore, Ballinamuck, Dungarvan whose death occurred recently while holidaying near the city of Tampere in Finland. The town and district received the news with total shock, numbness and disbelief. A neighbour's son, a friend's son, this cross of bereavement will be difficult to bear, not just presently but will leave many of us so empty for a long time to come. Pat grew up in Ballinamuck and was educated at the Mercy Convent and the local CBS. He attended both St. Josephs and the Secondary School. Conscientious and diligent, Pat was a model student of exemplary character and did all that was asked of him without a hint of fuss. After his Leaving Certificate he went to University College, Cork doing an Arts Degree, but decided to change career paths and became a tiler, totally dedicated to his trade. He had further plans and aspirations regarding his work, but sadly the Lord decided otherwise. Like many of his peers he loved music and was at his happiest in the company of his close friends who thought the world of him. Pat's first passion in life was the world of GAA affairs and he donned the colours of Abbeyside and Ballinacourty with pride. He gave many an outstanding display and his sporting endeavours saw him win an under 14 hurling title against Mt.Sion. He also was part of the minor football team from 'The Village' that defeated Gaultier and Rathgormack in the county final deciders 2001 and 2002. He assisted with linesman and umpiring duties when assisting his father at county, inter-county, provincial and national level. Naturally he attended all the major GAA fixtures, following his club and county with interest. Pat was a quiet, inoffensive person who was of few words, yet his counsel was often sought. His solid sound advice and opinions were greatly valued by his friends. There is a huge void in many of their lives right now and Pat Moore will be always remembered and spoken of with fondness and admiration, a fine lad of whom any parents would be justifiably proud. His obsequies gathered the biggest concourse seen in St. Mary's for many a day for final prayers and blessing afterward. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Pat's parents Marie (nee Ryan) and Pat, his brothers Dwaine, Jonathan, Alan, Jimmy and Bearach; his sisters Patrice and Mary Louise, his grandparents Phyllis Moore and Philomena Ryan, his aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
