McCarthy gets his own back on sponsors

Justin McCarthy has revealed why he refused to attend last week's planned managers' press conference in Dublin ahead of the NHL final. The Waterford boss, who was criticised by GAA president Nickey Brennan for failing to show up, said he was getting his own back on sponsors Allianz who snubbed him for the launch of the competition back in February. "The reason why I didn't go was because when they launched the league in February, they ignored me as one of the managers. Allianz did so by not inviting me up to Dublin," he said. "I felt that with my time in hurling - this was my seventh league final appearance as a player or manager - I should have been one of the people who was there. Allianz ignored me and they admitted they ignored me. "I felt I was as entitled to be at that launch as anybody because I have given a lot of time to hurling and I have been successful in the league lots of times and with other teams as well. "And that's why I didn't go. I was criticised by the president for doing an injustice to hurling, but my track record in hurling stands up for itself."
