Houlihan, Johnny

July 31, 2004
The late Johnny Houlihan Johnny Houlihan would have been in Semple Stadium had fate not intervened with such tragic and unexpected suddenness. A Dungarvan clubman through and through, Johnny died suddenly while working at his job as an Eircom technician. He was just forty nine years old and the father of five sons ranging in age from seventeen down to three. Johnny hailed from a family that has been intrinsically linked with Dungarvan through the generations. Two of his sons are playing at under age level with the club presently and Johnny himself has been a valued member of the juvenile committee for a number of years. At his removal members of the Dungarvan juvenile club, attired in the club colours, provided a guard of honour and the coffin was draped in the blue and white of the Old Boro. People of Johnny Houlihan's impeccable pedigree are a delight to know, and for those of us privileged to have known him the sense of loss at his unexpected and untimely demise is difficult to come to terms with. Even more difficult of course for his wife Bernie, his five young sons, his mother, brothers sisters, and many other relatives. Courtesy of the Waterford News and Star July 2004
