Death of Waterford hurling great

Waterford GAA is in mourning following the death on Monday, August 4 of Mick Hayes who played at left half back on the county's All-Ireland winning team of 1948.
A member of the Butlerstown club, Hayes played in his first Munster senior hurling final in 1943 when Waterford were defeated of by the great Cork team of that era. He was also a regular on Munster teams throughout the 1940s, winning five Railway Cup medals with the province.
The deceased was also named on the Waterford hurling team of the century a few years ago.
