Murphy, Eileen

January 23, 2014
The death occurred on January 8 of Eileen Murphy, Coole, Ballysaggart, Co Waterford. The late Eileen (nee Kenneally) was formerly of Ballinabrook, Mitchelstown. She had been in ill health for the past 3 years, an illness that she bore with great dignity and courage. Eileen aged 51 was predeceased by her son Shane.
A member of a great sporting family, she married into another great sporting family in Ballysaggart. She loved farming and was very devoted to her family. The late Eileen was a deeply religious woman. In her younger days she played ladies football and represented Cork at U16 grade in 1977. She also won an All-Ireland title in skittles.
The late Eileen was a great follower of Ballysaggart teams as well as Ballygiblin and Cork. She took great pride in having two sons, Christy and Barry, playing members of the current Ballysaggart junior hurling side that won the Waterford county and Munster titles in 2013. She came out from hospital in December to be present for their Munster final success in Mallow.
Even though in ill health for a long while, there was a great sense of shock and sadness when word broke through of her death. Huge crowds attended the family home on the Friday evening. On Saturday morning the cortege made its way from her home in Ballysaggart to Mitchelstown parish church for the requiem mass and burial. A guard of honour, made up of Ballysaggart players and officials, was present at the house as the funeral made its way to Mitchelstown for the requiem mass which had a very large and representative crowd in attendance. There was a guard of honour by members of the Ballysaggart GAA club in Brigown Cemetery as the coffin was shouldered to its final resting place.
No doubt when Christy and Barry line out with Ballysaggart in the All-Ireland junior club championship in O'Connor Park, Tullamore on Sunday to face Calry/St Josephs, Eileen will be there with them in spirit.
To her husband John, sons Gerard, Barry, Christopher, daughters Trina and Lisa, parents Jerry and Catherine, mother-in-law Biddy, grandchildren Jack, Lily, Lauren, Kacey and Jessica, sisters Mary (O'Gorman), Kathleen (Noonan), Sheila (Dalton), brothers Willie and Jim, aunts, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends, we tender our sincere sympathy.
