Waterford great Ware passes away

The Erin's Own clubman lined out at top of the right as Waterford defeated Kilkenny after a replay to bring home the Liam MacCarthy Cup - a prize that has eluded them ever since. He also won Oireachtas Cup and National League medals in 1962 and '63 respectively.
In 1962, 'Young Charlie' as he was known, was part of the Erin's Own team that denied city rivals Mount Sion a 10-in-a-row of Waterford SHC titles. His father, also Charlie, played in Waterford's defeat to Dublin in the 1938 All-Ireland final, but his uncle Jim had better luck 10 years later when he captained the Deise to their maiden All-Ireland success at Dublin's expense.
Married to Kathleen, Charlie was father of Pearl and Marcella. His removal from Waterford Regional Hospital will take place at 7 o'clock this evening to St. Mary's Church in Ballygunner. Requiem Mass will take place at 1pm tomorrow, followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. Tweet
