Waterford manager Sean Power admitted that his side's All-Ireland MHC success was long overdue.

Speaking to TV3 after the Deise ended a 65-year wait for Irish Press Cup honours, Power enthused: "It's brilliant. It's 60-odd years since we won a minor, 50-odd years since we won a senior, so we really needed it.

"It means a lot. Some fantastic minor teams have gone before this team and didn't get what they deserved. It's been a long time coming.

"We worked hard for it. It was a good Galway team we played against, a good All-Ireland final and thankfully we came through at the end, so we are fantastically delighted."

He added: "This is the day to do it. It's testament to the amount of work that's gone on and the amount of training the lads have done. They've really worked hard this year.

"We've taken the most scenic of routes to an All-Ireland and I'm just so proud of them. It just goes to show if you put the work in, you'll get their just rewards."
