The summer has arrived and so to has championship hurling in Waterford.

This weekend sees the start of the senior hurling championship and the standout fixture is the meeting of old rivals Ballygunner and Mount Sion at Walsh Park on Friday evening.

The team may not be as dominant as years gone by, but whenever they meet, there is always plenty of action, but Ballygunner will be slight favourites to take the points.

On Saturday evening, Fraher Field hosts a double header as Abbeyside play Passage at 6pm and this will be followed by the meeting of De La Salle and Ballyduff Upper.

There are three games down for decision on Sunday with Fraher Field once again hosting a double header as Roanmore play Dungarvan and Fourmilewater face Lismore.

Sunday evening wraps up the weekend of action as Tallow and An Rinn meet at Cappoquin.
