Waterford's chances of getting their hands on the Munster SHC silverware have suffered a set-back with defender Stephen Daniels ruled out for the year after shattering his knee-cap in a challenge match on Friday.

The De La Salle clubman - who featured in all of Waterford's five league games this year - sustained the serious knee injury in a challenge game against Offaly that was played in Tipperary town.

He is set to have an operation on the knee tomorrow at Whitfield Clinic.

It is a cruel blow for the young defender who made his championship debut against Clare last summer. Tweet
