Waterford victory no surprise to Kiely
April 22, 2013
John Kiely wasn't surprised to see Waterford end their four-year wait for a victory in the Munster MFC in Dungarvan on Saturday.
The former senior manager, who is now in charge of the minors, explained to the Irish Examiner after the Deise's 3-10 to 3-9 win over Limerick: "I'm not a bit surprised because we had all the best U18 footballers in the county.
"I have always said that if we get the best lads out on the field at the one time in this county we would be as good as anybody.
"We had a get-together on Thursday night and 49 fellas showed up and we picked 34 out of the 49. That inside line we picked - Michael Troy, Conor Gleeson and Paul O'Connor - is as good as you will see in Munster. Conor Gleeson would walk onto the Kerry or Cork teams."
Waterford could meet Limerick again in the semi-final if the Treaty County should beat Clare in their losers' group match.
