Minor footballers begin campaign

Waterford minor football manager John Kiely admits that preparations for the campaign have been hampered.

The decies have a number of dual stars in their ranks and this has made it difficult for them to give the necessary commitment to both codes.

On Saturday, Waterford host Limerick at Fraher Field and this comes just three days after they were supposed to play Clare in the Munster MHC, although last night's hurling was called off due to the weather.

"We have had just one get together against Carlow and then we had to field without all of our college players due to their commitments and also the preparations of the minor hurlers," said Kiely.

"The clubs have all been involved in the minor championships so most players have been under real pressure."
