Shanahan glad of break

Dan Shanahan tests the fabric of the new Waterford jersey.
Waterford forward Dan Shanahan is hoping that his break from league hurling will give him the spark to regain the form that saw him crowned Hurler of the Year.
Shanahan has failed to reach the dizzy heights of 2007 when he was named the best hurler in the country and although he has still made a huge contribution to the Waterford cause, his form has dipped slightly.
Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald has given Shanahan, Tony Browne, Ken McGrath, John Mullane, Seamus Prendergast and Eoin Murphy an extended break from action in the hope that they will be fully fresh for the championship and Shanahan believes that it will benefit them.
"It's no harm I suppose. It's my 13th year playing inter-county and it's my first break. Everyone has seen the benefits for Tony over the last few years, he's been phenomenal," said Shanahan.
"He's been consistent and hopefully I can go back like that. I'll miss the league to be honest, I miss the craic with the lads, but there comes a time when you have to go back that month or so later and see how you get on."
