According to the man himself, Aaron Gillane’s early contender for goal of the year in today’s Allianz HL final came about by accident rather than design.

“Tom (Morrissey) actually mis hit it,” the Patrickswell player told TG4’s GAA BEO shortly before being presented with the ‘man-of-the-match’ accolade.

“I don’t know what I was doing, I kind of just flicked it. I’d say it was the only thing I hit on target all day.

“I had enough wides as well, delighted it went in.”

Gillane and his Treaty County team-mates will enjoy the achievement of winning the county’s first league title since 1997 before turning their attention to the defence of their All-Ireland crown.

“It was a good performance, we were delighted to get over the line but, look, there’s things to work on for championship.

“But, no doubt we’ll enjoy this win, it’s a great achievement for us and we’re delighted with it.”
