Waterford manager Derek McGrath has singled out Mikey Kearney for special praise.

Kearney has been knocking around the Waterford panel for a few years now, but he is getting an extended chance in the side during the league and the talented forward has been one of the positives of the campaign.

McGrath told the Waterford News & Star that Kearney is grasping his chance to impress with both hands as the Déise look to preserve their 1A status when they face Cork in a relegation play-off on Sunday.

"In the first game of 2015 campaign, Mikey played well down in Limerick. He's been in and around the panel. One to 9 has picked itself to a certain degree and we have chopped and changed in the forwards, depending on our approach," said McGrath.

"He's getting a chance now and taking it. It's important that he builds on that as a good young player and fellas don't put too much pressure on him either. He's able to move which is the crucial ingredient. When the ground gets harder, he'll probably get better."
