Offaly Hurlers have it easy
August 06, 2008
Offaly 3-29
New Jersey/Kilkenny 1-17
Offaly had far too many weapons for NJK in this senior hurling contest that boldly states that the championship will be decided between Tipperary and Offaly this season.
While New Jersey had a 1-01 to 0-02 point lead to open the game after Maurice Sullivan doubled on an incoming pass from John Greene, it was the last time they lead as Offaly rattled off 1-12 to 0-02 over the next twenty minutes. Stephen Brown had 1-06 with Naill Healy contributing 0-02. Brown was clinical from frees from all angles and he finished his goal expertly.
While NJK had two of the last three points of the half they were meaningless in the overall context. The second half continued in the same vane as Offaly had 1-03 against a solitary point in the opening eight minutes. Five points each were traded with Maurice Sullivan putting on an exhibition for New Jersey but again Offaly replied to each point with one of their own as the game took on exhibition nature.
Offaly will be delighted with the forward line contributions of Naill Healy, Stephen Brown, Ross Carroll and Donie Broderick. Naill Callanan, Richie Gaule and Darren Reilly were excellent at the defensive end. NJK had Conor Hayes, Maurice Sullivan and Finbarr Flood as their lone highlights.
