Tipp gallop forward

August 06, 2008
Tipperary 7-15 Galway 4-11 On Saturday evening Tipperary had a high scoring win over Galway where the game was not truly reflected in the score. After fifteen minutes the game was tied at 1-03 a piece with Ronan Sheedy getting the Galway major, which cancelled out a Liam Costello goal. It preceded a Tipperary onslaught over the final fifteen minutes of the half where the Premier County outscored their opponents 2-08 to 1-03 but Galway were battling for every ball. The fire power that was on display for Tipp was too much. Joe Canning took the free taking duties over from Kieran Bergin and 1-04 in the outburst. His goal was a brilliant effort where he balanced delicately before firing to the net, while his frees were from a host of angles. Liam Costello and Kieran Bergin had the goals with Bergin's coming at the end of a mazy solo run. Galway pulled a goal back when a sideline from Sean Glynn went ball the way unimpeded to the net from 55 yards out but it was still 4-10 to 2-06 at the break. The scoring was even in the second half with Galway answering score for score to at least show character but Tipp's Bergin and Costello again had goals of brilliance at critical times. Joe Canning had little baring on the second half as he was on the forty for much of it with Conor Barry showing well of the bench for the Tribesmen with a brace of scores. When all was done the power of Tipp was too much despite Galway's best effort. John Purcell, John Madden, Bergin, Canning, Costello and the lively Andy O'Connell were brilliant across the field. Galway will see Dave Simms, Seamus Pender, despite a nasty head wound, Tom Murphy, the excellent Daniel Lyons, Ray McGuinness and Ronan Sheedy who had two goals of the Galway, (Ireland) full back, as their best. Scorers Liam Costello (4-00) Kieran Bergin (2-05) Joe Canning (1-07) Andy O'Connell (0-02) Gary O'Donaghue (0-01) Galway Ronan Sheedy (2-00) Tom Murphy (0-03) Ray McGuinness (0-03) Daniel Lyons (0-01) Conor Barry (0-02) Sean Glynn (2-00) Shane Kearney (0-01) John Tarpey (0-01) Referee Fergus Smith (Meath) Man of the Match (Kieran Bergin (Tipperary)
