St Barnabas 0-12 Four Provinces 0-11 The Senior Football championship was turned on its head with St Barnabas taking the scalp of the reigning county champs 4P's with a determined performance that proved the game is played over sixty minutes. Despite starting the game five points down after five minutes, the winners dug deep and clawed back to secure the first major surprise of the season. They with stood some wayward shooting to go into the break at a 8 points too 5 disadvantage after Sean Carbin, Darren Petit, Ronan Garvey and Eoin Meeney were on the scoreboard with good scores. Meeney's second was particularly impressive as he showed his marker a clean pair of heels before firing over the bar. Four Provinces tactic of pumping the ball into the full forward line early was effective for the opening quarter but the back line of Declan Garvey, Brian Montgomery and Peter McKenna eventually found it out with good interceptions. Mike Higgins had the first point of the second half but Barnabas then outscored them eight points to two the rest of the way with again Eoin Meeney helping himself to three in the mix. He hit from the left wing on ten minutes and then had two from the center when he paired with Alan O'Hara and Ronan Garvey. Four Provinces only reply was two Higgins scores as their full forward line was completely snuffed out. When Meeney scored in the twentieth minute the game was tied and Garvey and sub Morgan Hynes put them into the winners circle with a brace from play. Saint Barnabas will be delighted with the form of Peter McKenna, the Garvey Brothers, Ciaran Moyles, the brilliant Meeney, Alan O'Hara and Sean Carbin. Four P's will look at the game as one that was taken from them by a determined outfit, Mike Higgins, Michael Gallagher, James Flaherty, first half, Ciaran Donnelly and Ryan Kiely were their best performers.
