Senior football championship started in Boston with all 8 senior teams competing. Kerry picked up a valuable 2 points with a 2 point win over Galway on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-6.

Kerry playing with the aid of a strong wind in the opening half kept Galway scoreless and went in 1-3 to no score at the half, the goal coming from a penalty by Joe Fitzpatrick who also had 2 points, one from play the other from a free. The opening score for Kerry came from Denis Collins, the Knocknagoshel man punched over the bar after 2 minutes of play. Kerry also had 12 wides as it was almost impossible to judge the wind. While Galway did not score in the half they were also wide of the mark due to the wind.

In the second half Galway made a game of it scoring 6 points to Kerry's 2. Danny Rudden had 3 points and one from a 45. Jamie Kehoe and Kevin Commons added one each to make it just 2 between the sides. Kerry were under severe pressure. They brought on Ger Kelly for James Dooley and he steadied the ship. Eugene Communings who came on a sub late in the half also impressed. Kerry will be very happy with this result as they face off with the Connemara Gaels on June 9th. The Gaels looked very good in the opening game as they defeated Aiden McAnnespies 2-8 to 1-9. Shannon Blues looked very sharp in game 3 as they defeated Wolfe Tones 3-11 to 1-8. Donegal and St. Christophers ended in a draw - 1-10 each. It was a very entertaining afternoon of football.
